Tate Lewis earned his third consecutive shutout win with a 7-0 masterpiece against the Ft Scott Tigers. The win evened the team’s record at 8-8.
Lewis, allowing only four hits on the day, sat down the Tigers in order in each of the first two innings. After that he only allowed one runner to reach third base as he stranded seven base runners in the outing. Pitching to contact, he only had one strikeout through six, but he closed with two strikeouts in the seventh before a fly ball to center ended the game.
The Cardinal offense struck for two runs in the bottom of the first on four hits. Karsen Myers’ singled with one out was followed by a double from Brock Renfro. They each scored on back-to-back two-out singles from Mason Young and Barret Weller.
Aided by a Tiger error, Webb City put up three more runs in the second on four hits. They then added two more in the fourth, one on a sac fly from Luke Beverlin and another on a double from Mason Young.
Mason Young finished the day 3-4. Weller, in his first varsity start, was 2-3, and Renfro also added two hits. Myers scored three of the Cardinal runs as Beverlin drove in three. The Cardinals did not strike out on the day.
