The conductor pulled double-duty on this trip

Former member Karen Oheim had in her collection this picture of the Orianna streetcar, which is mentioned in the following article from 1895.

The pole that was held up by the conductor can been seen in this photograph. In the background is the Lakeside Hotel.

While on our way to Lakeside park to report the Confederate picnic an amusing incident occurred.

The car “Orianna” with Ford motorman and Butts conductor was seen approaching in a crippled condition. Conductor Butts in addition to taking fares stood on top of the car holding the trolley pole against the wire thus forming the “missing link” to produce a current sufficient to take the car into the city.
