Three Cardinal golfers advance to state championships

Softball Cardinals advance to district semifinal

The Webb City girls golf team took fourth place in the Class 3 District 3 tournament at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield. 

Laya McAllister, Sydney French, and Sophia Coulson qualified to compete in the state championship tournament Monday and Tuesday in New Bloomfield. 

McAllister received all-district honors by placing ninth individually.

The Class 4 state tournament will be held October 18-19 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

CARDINALS TAKE ON SECOND-SEEDED WILLARD THURSDAY

Webb City softball won its first game of the Class 4 District 6 tournament, defeating Hillcrest 14-0.

The 15-12 Cardinals, seeded third, will face second-seeded Willard at 5 p.m. Thursday at Neosho Athletic Complex.

McDonald County, the top seed, will play fourth-seeded Neosho at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. 

The final will be at 5 p.m. Friday.

CARDINALS SEEDED SECOND IN DISTRICT

Webb City is seeded second in the Class 4 District 12 volleyball tournament. Host team Carl Junction is the top seed.

The Cardinals will face Nevada in the semifinals of the five-team bracket at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. McDonald County and Monett will play in the opening round to decide which team advances to meet Carl Junction in the semi-finals, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23.

The final is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.

The Cardinals improved their record to 14-11-2 with a straight-set (25-12, 25-19, 25-16) victory Tuesday over Neosho. Brenda Lawrence led with 18 kills six digs, while Kearston Galardo had 12 kills and seven digs. Kyah Sanborn had 39 assists and nine digs. Sophia Crane had 16 digs.

Over the weekend, Webb City placed second in the Willard tournament. The Cardinals defeated Aurora, Stockton and Logan-Rogersville but were defeated by first-place Willard.
