'Treasure' hunting in the archives

Webb City Area Genealogical Society

July 31, 2024

Volunteers here at Webb City Area Genealogical Society have found a few interesting photographs in our archives.

One photo shows Southwest Missouri Electric Railway streetcar number 41. We are guessing this car may have been used on the rural routes because of the deflector, also known as a “cow catcher,” that was mounted on the front of the streetcar.

Two other photos found with the streetcar photo were of a telephone exchange. We researched but were unable to determine if they were of a Webb City office.

The last photo in the group is of two young men loading or unloading chat from a local tailing pile.  We are always happy to find new “old” images from Webb City’s past.
