The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced this week that Harry S Truman Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes individual schools for either their outstanding academic achievement (top 15 percent in the state based on English and mathematics assessment scores and graduation rates) or their performance at high academic levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.
Only seven other schools in Missouri were selected as Blue Ribbon Schools this year. Nixa’s Mathews Elementary School is the only other school representing southwest Missouri.
Principal Jody Bennett and other Webb City representatives will attend the 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools award ceremonies Nov. 16 – 17 in Washington, DC. Local celebrations have not been scheduled yet.
This is the second time Truman Elementary has been a Blue Ribbon School. The first time was in 2016.
Eugene Field Elementary was a Blue Ribbon School in 2022.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
