Webb City Junior High School will celebrate its recent recognition as a National Banner Unified Champion School during the annual Night of Unity on Thursday.
The event will start at 5 p.m. with a basketball game in the boys gym at Webb City High School. At halftime will be a Unified Dance performance.
At 6 p.m., there will be a Unified Basketball Game with Unified Cheer.
“We are thrilled to celebrate Webb City Junior High for their commitment to inclusion!” says Unified Champion Schools Manager Emma Thomas.
She points out that WCJHS is the first middle level school in Missouri to become a National Banner Unified Champion.
“They are a standout Unified Champion School because they consistently provide opportunities for their students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities to build relationships through their Breakfast Club and Unified PE.”
Webb City was one of three Missouri schools selected in September as National Banner Unified Champion Schools.
On Thursday afternoon, there will be a pep rally at the junior high, followed by a question-and-answer session for other local districts to learn more about the Special Olympics Unified Movement.
The Night of Unity was originally scheduled to take place in January but was postponed because of weather until Thursday, Feb. 15.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
