Violet Haut and Brooklyn Cartwright qualify for state golf tournament

Two Webb City golfers, Violet Haut and Brooklyn Cartwright, will be competing in the Class 3 state tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin.

They qualified at the District 3 tournament last week in Bolivar when Haut tied for third place with an 86 and Cartwright finished 18th with a 110.

“I knew going into this district tournament that the teams were matched pretty evenly and whoever had four play well would take it,” said coach Jason Brown. “Unfortunately that wasn’t us today. As a team we finished in fifth place in what was a race for third between Carl Junction, West Plains and Webb City. Bolivar played very well on their home course and Central matched them closely to run away with state team berths.”

The top-three teams going on and their district scores are: Bolivar, 389; Central, 391, and Carl Junction, 422. Webb City’s team score was 427.

Despite not taking the entire team to state, Brown said he is “very proud of these girls and the season they’ve had. Clare Zahm is a senior who hadn’t played before this year and made a big impact. Cassie Collins and Irelynn Miles, a sophomore and freshmen, played crucial roles at different times to help the team make major strides in placings. They are hungry to play in the state tournament and will be returning with some pressure district experience next year.”
