The first pickleball tournament in the still-new W Club on Saturday appeared to be a success.
“The place was packed,” observes Bryan Waggoner, director of parks and recreation for Webb City.
Kong Lee, the recreation director, was busy taking late signups and assigning teams to tournament brackets.
“For being the first one, I think it was pretty successful,” says Waggoner.
None are scheduled yet, but Waggoner says plans are to hold tournaments, maybe every couple of months.
Pickleball can be played during open-gym periods.
The W Club is a city owned and operated recreation center in King Jack Park. (The sign is visible from MacArthur Drive.) Becoming a member, which is required for check-in purposes, is simple and free.
