WCHS theatre rehearsing laugh-a-minute ‘Puffs’ for annual spring play

The Webb City High School theatre department is preparing to put on “Puffs” as its annual spring play.

Director Nancy O’Banion summarizes the plot. “For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there, too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.”

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 5-6, and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Reviewers have said the stage play by Matt Cox never goes more than a minute without a laugh.

‘Monty Python’s Spamalot’

May 18 – 22 at Joplin Little Theatre

Joplin Little Theatre announces its next production, “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” directed by Becki Arnall, will be staged May 18 to 22.

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Monty Python’s Spamalot” retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls?

The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including best musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 thru Saturday, May 21, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 23.

Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and students. The show isn’t recommended for children 12 and under because of the PG-13 rating for language. They can be purchased at the JLT office, by calling (417) 623-3638 or online at joplinlittletheatre.org.

Joplin Little Theatre is located at 3009 W. First Street. Office hours are 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
