Boys seeded first in next week’s district tournament at Nevada

Webb City boys basketball is the No. 1 seed in the Class 5 District 12 tournament at Nevada.
The Cardinals will try to advance past No. 4 Carl Junction at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Prior to the final regular season game Thursday against Neosho, Webb City has a 16-8 record.
No. 2 Nevada, with an 18-5 record, will play No. 3 Harrisonville in the second game Tuesday.
The four-team bracket championship game will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5.
Carl Junction (15-8) is No. 1 in the girls district. The Bulldogs will play No. 4 Harrisonville at 7 p.m. Monday.
No. 3 seed Webb City (7-14) will play No. 2 Nevada at the same time.
The girls final will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4.
Both Webb City teams lost at home Friday to Republic (girls 50-23, boys 52-44).
Tuesday at Carthage, the boys defeated the Tigers 62-46, but the girls lost 55-38.
The boys’ balanced scoring was led by Nichkhai Howerd, with 13. Kaden Turner had 12, Luke Brumit 10, Mekhi Garrard 9, Trenton Hayes 8, and Alex Martin 8.
Jaydee Duda led the Webb City girls with 19 points, while Abby Brownfield scored 11.
After homecoming coronation at Cardinal Dome Thursday, the varsity girls and JV boys will play at 6 p.m. The 7:30 p.m. games will be boys varsity and girls JV. Opponents are the Neosho boys and East Newton girls.
