Webb City Christmas Parade has a new sponsor… Webb City

There’s a new organizer for the Webb City Christmas Parade, which will be Wednesday, Dec. 4.

“I think the city ought to own its Christmas parade,” said Mayor Lynn Ragsdale during the City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 28.

The position of parade sponsor became available when the Project Graduation group at Webb City High School decided not to run it anymore.

Project Graduation stepped up in 2014 after the traditional sponsor, the Webb City Area Chamber of Commerce, cited unpredictable weather and a declining number of floats as reasons for passing on the responsibility.

City Administrator Carl Francis reported, “All city departments got together this week along with Mayor Ragsdale and the decision was made to have city staff organize and sponsor the 2024 Webb City Christmas Parade.”

Erin Turner, community development director, said the theme will be A Classic Christmas. She will be placing ads and seeking entries.

There will be a new route, which Francis said will help with the lineup process. It will start at the north end of town and come south.

Floats will be allowed to distribute candy, but it will be restricted to hand-to-hand only. No tossing of the candy will be allowed. Entries will be advised they must have people walking on the outer edge of the roadway to hand out candy if they wish to do so.
