Webb City Area Genealogical Society
We found this nice handmade poster of 1943-1944 grade school teachers and principals in our archives at the Webb City Area Genealogical Society. Here are their names:
Franklin School, back row: Mrs. Anna Ruth Thoman; Mrs. Dorothy Crandall. Front: Mrs. Emma Morgan, principal.
West Side School, back row: Mrs. Fern Brown, principal; Mrs. Emma K. Crane. Front row: Mrs. Warren Stout; Miss Bernita Lewis.
Eugene Field, back row: Miss Goldie Burton, principal; Miss Marjorie Sandford; Mrs. Ella Moudy. Front row: Miss Norma Reid; Mrs. Dorsey Watson; Miss Allene Bates.
Webster School, back row: Miss Fern Mosby, Mrs. Lloyd Buehner, principal; Miss Pearl Venable. Front row: Miss Jennie Lowe; Mrs. Anna B. Hatcher; Miss Edith Lowe.
We found their names using the 1943-1944 yearbook, which included a calendar much like those of today.
By the way, commencement for Webb City High School seniors of 2022 will be Friday, May 13.
The WCAGS has accepted ownership of the complete collection of bound volumes of the Webb City Sentinel, from 1983 (after the fire) until the final issue on Dec. 30, 2020.
Those issues can also be viewed on microfilm, along with much older issues.
WCAGS members staff the Genealogy Room on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library. Current hours are noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Geanealogy Room.
Everything you want to know about Jasper County Missouri Schools is available at a site compiled by Webb City Area Genealogical Society member Kathy Sidenstricker.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
