Webb City boys basketball will entertain Glendale for homecoming Friday in the Cardinal Dome.
The team is returning home after taking second place at the Frontenac tournament Saturday and a 70-51 road loss Tuesday at Springfield Central, which has the second-best record in Class 5 District 6 behind Carl Junction.
Webb City will host the boys district tournament, while Willard will host the girls district tournament. Both tournaments will start March 5.
The Cardinals began the Frontenac tournament Thursday with a 89-52 win over the host team. On Friday, they beat Nevada 68-36. They fell to Putnam City, Okla., 58-48 in the championship game.
A new game has been added to the schedule. At 5 p.m. Saturday, the Cardinals will play Fair Grove at Mission University in Springfield.
Next week, the 9-7 Cardinals will be at Kickapoo on Tuesday and at Republic on Friday. They’ll be home again Tuesday, Feb. 11 against Carthage.
During the last home game, as Tim Workman reports, “Holton Keith collected 31 points on the night, but the most significant was a layup early in the third quarter that pushed his career total over 1,000 points.”
The 12-5 Lady Cardinals are on a six-game winning streak as they prepare for their home game Thursday against the 8-9 Glendale Falcons.
During the Cardinals’ last eight games, they have won seven and averaged 63 points in the games they’ve won. Their only loss in that stretch was 72-43 at home against 14-3 Nixa.
The Cardinals’ most recent win was 64-33 at Waynesville. They earlier had road wins Thursday at Forsyth (68-37) and Monday at Springfield Central (69-17).
Next week, the Cardinals will be back on the road – Monday at 15-2 Kickapoo and Thursday at 9-8 Republic.
The next home game will be Tuesday, Feb. 11, against Carthage.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
