One of the host teams took second place in the annual Webb City Junior High Scholar Bowl, which was held Tuesday, March 31.
Nevada’s team claimed the championship. But Stacy Stockton, Webb City’s scholar bowl coach, said the WCJHS teams performed well.
Members of the team placing second (above) were Elijah Sumler (front); Blair Alcorn, Sithum Appuhamy, Cade Cranford and Carson DeFazio.
Isaac Oppelt, eighth grade team captain, earned third place in individual points.
All the Webb City teams did a great job not only competing but also taking on hosting duties both before and after the event, said Stockton. She expressed appreciation to all the teachers, parents, and high school students who volunteered and brought supplies. “We couldn’t have done it without them,” she added.
This year’s questions were written by Mike Madden of Think Fast Productions, a company here in Carterville. He enjoys writing trivia questions for many local events.
The event is named the Bryann Baird Memorial Tournament, in honor of the late scholar bowl coach at WCJHS.
