The 2024 Webb City Little League Softball 14u Juniors have become the first-ever juniors from Webb City to win a Missouri state championship and are on their way to the regionals.
The team, led by manager Isaac Wheat and coaches Justin Jacks and Adrienne Marney, left Wednesday morning to battle in the Junior League Softball Central Regional Tournament in Pendleton, Ind.
After opening ceremonies and a dinner Wednesday night, their first game in the bracket will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, against Michigan.
Whoever wins the final on Sunday will advance to the Junior League Softball World Series, July 28 – Aug. 3 at Everest Park in Kirkland, Wash.
A benefit gospel concert featuring Sherri Perry and Chuck and Sharon Crain of the Presley’s Jubilee in Branson will be held the afternoon of Sunday July 28 at Carterville United Methodist Church.
All are invited to the free concert. Donations will be accepted to preserve the church.
Singing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 120 W. Main St., Carterville.
During this period of severe blood shortage, the American Red Cross is urging all eligible donors to participate in an upcoming blood drive that’s nearby.
The blood drive will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Col. Travis Hoover Composite Squadron (former Joplin airport terminal), 5509 Dennis Weaver Drive, Webb City.
Walk-ins will be welcome, but appointments are encouraged.
