The Webb City boys tennis team has found some momentum while defeating Parkview 8-1 and placing second in the Fort Scott Tournament.
During the singles matches here Tuesday, Easton McDonald made several nice plays. The sophomore overcame two long rallies, taking an 8-6 victory over his opponent. Justice Bonnow also won a nailbiter in his last set, going back and forth from break point to match point.
Here’s a breakdown of the results from each match:
DOUBLES
Alex Stanley & Lester Pascua lost 8-6 to Christopher Rubio & Kirven Moon
Easton McDonald & Cameron Stone won 8-0 vs. Grant Baker & Ezra Gillham
Justice Bonnow & Jayden Bowker won 8-2 vs. Landon Frans & Emory Bell
SINGLES
Stanley won vs. Rubio 8-6
McDonald won vs. Moon 8-6
Pascua won vs. Baker 8-3
Bonnow won 8-1 vs. Frans
Stone won 8-1 vs. Bell
Bowker won 8-1 vs. Jack Moorhead
“This was the first time out for our full squad,” said Cardinals coach Stephany Pace. “We’re proud of our guys, especially our guys playing their first-ever high school tennis matches. Though we have areas to improve, we played well overall, and we love seeing our guys cheering each other on and really being a team.”
“We’re getting into the tough part of our season, so we need to keep focusing on doing things correctly, maintaining next-point mentality, and remaining positive throughout matches. If we can do those things consistently, we’ll keep improving.”
The team will be at Carthage Thursday and the Bird-Dog invitational on Friday.
