Wrestling wins 1 of 2 on senior night, Carthage here Tuesday

Webb City wrestling celebrated senior night Thursday, January, 14, in Cardinal Dome.

The Cardinals began the night defeating McDonald County 48-36. Winning by pin were Colt Taylor, 120; Aiden Moore, 126; Dominick Boles, 132, and Roger Carranco, 182.

The night ended with Neosho defeating Webb City 72-0.

Seniors and their parents honored were, Bobby Pearish, Rafe Mackey, Jackson Ward, Brayden Hollingsworth, Roger Carranco, Jacob Ott and managers Ashlyn Boyd and Kylee Bard.

At the Willard tournament Saturday, Ott won the 195-pound individual title. Carranco, at 182, was a runner-up. Hollingsworth placed third at 160,  and Kole Carr was fourth at 285. The team placed sixth.

Next up is the tournament at Paola, Kansas, on Friday. The girls squad competes Saturday at the Gem City Throwdown at Diamond.

The Cardinals will be back in the dome at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Carthage. The conference tournament will be Saturday, January, 30 at Republic.

BOYS BASKETBALL ENTERS FRONTENAC TOURNAMENT

Webb City boys basketball will meet Fort Scott at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the annual Kansas Army National Guard Tournament at Frontenac, Kansas.

The tournament will continue through Saturday.

The 9-2 Cardinals lost their 33-28 halftime lead at Ozark Friday, losing the conference game 72-66.

After the Frontenac tournament, they’ll be at Harrisonville Tuesday and at the Nixa tournament January 28–30.
