This week the Jasper County Youth Fair is being held at the Carthage Municipal Park through Saturday, July 18. Area 4-H members are exhibiting their animals, food and projects at this yearly event. There are currently nine 4-H clubs in Jasper County. Spring River 4-H meets the second Sunday of the month in Webb City.

In April 1960, winners of the Carthage Evening Press Better 4-H Club Contest were honored during a banquet featuring “Wild Kingdom” star Marlin Perkins. He was a Carthage native and director of Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo at the time.
The Prairie Flower Club, which included Webb City members, earned the judges’ nod and was presented a $25 cash prize. Club members attending the event were (BACK) Adult leaders Oliver Sandy and Kenneth Anderson; Larry Sandy, Frances McDowell, Susan McDowell, Olivene Frownfelter, Jewell Frownfelter, adult leaders Mrs. Ralph Frownfelter, Mrs. W.E.
