In its first year, the esports team at Webb City High School made it to the state playoffs.
A large crowd came out to celebrate a Night of Unity and Webb City Junior High as a National Unified Champion School.
Webb City used part of its federal recovery money to pump more water into the system. Since this story, though, drilling an additional well has fallen on the priority list.

Cheryl and William Roderique were named Distinguished Citizens the same night that John Roderique was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The 28 best JROTC rifle teams in the nation competed at Camp Perry, and Webb City won second place.
Mid-Missouri Bank demolished its drive-in branch on Madison Street and built it’s new main bank there. Meanwhile, the old bank downtown is for sale.
Land where a movie theater was supposed to go before the pandemic was sold in 2024, with the city receiving $72,084 (half of the sale price).
Burger King bit the dust to be replaced by a coffee place, 7Brew, which joined Starbucks and Scooters on the west side of Madison Street.
The 2024 senior class of Webb City High School graduated on a splendid evening at Cardinal Stadium.
The baseball Cardinals were a win short of making it to the final four. Their season ended at 26-8.
Oronogo’s growth is no longer impeded now that its upgraded sewer system is in operation. Also, the EPA completed removal of mine waste in that portion of town.
Whataburger took a big chunk of Madison Street frontage, and it’s rumored that Dunkin’ will be its neighbor on the south.
Twisted lines were blamed for a near total blackout of Webb City on a Saturday night in July.
Paradise Lake in King Jack Park was stocked with thousands of fish, that we later worried about when the lake dried up during the drought. We’ll see in 2025 if the effort to plug the leak worked.
Cruise-A-Palooza was a success again after the Fourth.
Beth Ezell became the first female firefighter to be promoted to engineer in the Webb City Fire Department.
There’s no longer a shortage of police and firefighters, as many pinning ceremonies were held in 2024.
Before the former bank at 100 N. Main St. was listed (for $375,000) its contents were auctioned. The Jack Dawson mural of Webb City, however, was deeded to the city.
The Cardinals became district champs in volleyball for the fourth year in a row and were one win away from going to the final four.
The girls placed 10th and the boys placed 15th. Brooke Hedger took fifth individually.
The Cardinals doubled their number of wins after districts began and beat Carthage for the championship.
It won’t be long before the new sports facility in King Jack Park is finished. It will be called the W Club.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
