Jeanne’s Webb City timeline: 2007 – 2011

2007 – The Park Board made preliminary plans to build a water park in King Jack Park. The project is still on hold.

2007 – Steve Garrett succeeded Chance Morgan as city administrator on April 2.

2007 – 9.55 inches of rain on June 8.

2007 – Carterville School 1963 – 2007, was demolished as school was let out for summer.

2007 – Talk of the EPA filling Sucker Flat with mine waste from the surrounding super fund site caused some controversy but happened anyway.

2007 – The first home game in the new Cardinal Stadium, with new artificial turf as well as new grandstand, was played on Sept. 7.

2007 – Bess Truman Primary Center, built next to Harry S Truman Elementary School in Oronogo, was dedicated.

2007 – The new Carterville Elementary School was dedicated.

2007 – Kim DeMoss became city clerk.

2007 – The EPA began cleaning up the chat piles and other mine waste between Carterville and Webb City.

2007 – Jack Dawson and Kelli Pryor were inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame.

2007 – Memorial Park was rededicated on Nov. 3. A history class at Webb City Junior High School performed research that led to 77 Webb Citians being honored for their ultimate sacrifice during war.

2007 – Chuck Surface became Webb City’s director of economic development.

2007 – December – ICE STORM.

2007 – 55 inches of precipitation, 9.73 inches above normal.

2008 – Drury Students presented their final study survey, full of many ideas on how Webb City could improve.

2008 – The Webb City Mining Days Committee disbanded on Feb. 21, due to a lack of volunteers.

2008 – Terry James retired from the Webb City R-7 School Board on May 1 after serving for a record breaking 35 years.

2008 – Webb City received recognition as Dream City, but the economic downturn prohibited expected benefits from the state.

2008 – Harold Conner and Grace Steele Woodward were inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame.

2008 – The Webb City Cardinals were state champs again.

2009 – Hugh Hatcher was inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame.

2010 – Mike Copple and Allen L. Hall were inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame.

2010 – Another state championship for the Webb City Cardinals.

2011 – Stadium Drive from Madison Street to Main Street was completed, with the base provided by the EPA.

2011 – Webb Citians voted to ban smoking in restaurants, bars and other businesses. But the City Council took that as advisory and declined 3-5 to pass the ordinance.

2011 – The Heritage Clock Tower on the high school campus was dedicated in May as a tribute to educators from every school that had consolidated to form the R-7 District since 1877.

2011 – The Joplin Tornado on May 22. 162 fatalities.

2011 – Heat and drought killed lots trees, plants, and dried up ponds.

2011 – Peggy Wrightsman-Parolin was inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame.

2011 – Bright Futures was organized in Webb City.

2011 – The Webb City Cardinals won the state championship.

A lot of us appreciate the Bradbury Bishop Fountain, but Jeanne actually worked behind the counter making sodas while she was in high school. She knows everything about Webb City and is a former member of the Webb City R-7 School Board.
