ESPN’s Matt Miller survives head-on crash

Matt Miller, an NFL draft analyst for ESPN who lives in this area, is thankful to be alive after his recent head-on collision with a semi on Highway 96 east of Highway 43.

Writing on his X account, he says he was airlifted to Mercy Hospital Joplin and thanks all involved with the care he received.

Even though he underwent a life-saving amputation of his left arm, and it will be a long road to recovery, he says he is looking forward to getting back to covering football for ESPN.

Thursday, June 11

14:00 – I was contacted by phone from another agency about a possible sexual misconduct that might have occurred in the 1800 block of S. Oronogo St.

15:02 – Officers were dispatched to MacArthur Drive and Oronogo Street for a motor vehicle crash.

21:22 – An officer conducted a traffic stop at Oronogo Street and Powell Court for expired registration. A 40-year-old male was taken into custody for driving while revoked.

Sunday, June 14

01:11 – An officer checked on a disabled vehicle at 208 S. College St. A 41-year-old female was arrested for DWI.

04:59 – An officer was dispatched to 466 N. Washington St. in reference to a stolen vehicle.

10:44 – An officer at WCPD was notified by phone of a past-tense hit-and-run motor vehicle collision on the 4000 block of dirt road.

10:59 – I was dispatched to a trespass in progress at Walmart. The subject was cited.

15:46 – I was dispatched 1310 S Madison St., where weapons were being flourished.

16:39 – Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of N. Main St. in reference to a deceased subject. The body was released to the family.

Monday, June 15

00:44 – An officer attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of East and Galena streets. The vehicle fled and the male driver was taken into custody based on the felony known as Valentine’s Law.

10:04 – An officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation at Daugherty and East streets and a stop was made. The 48-year-old female was arrested for DWI.

10:05 – Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of S. Ellis St. for an unresponsive subject.

15:13 – Officers were dispatched to Madison and Seventh streets for a motor vehicle crash.

16:51 – I received call for service at the roundabout for a motor vehicle accident where one vehicle left the scene.

21:55 – On 06-15-2026 at 2155 hours officers were dispatched to the area of 1708 S Madison St (Taco Bell) regarding a potentially intoxicated individual operating a motor vehicle. A 30-year-old male was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated due to drug impairment.

Tuesday, June 16

06:21 – Officers were dispatched to 7Brew, 1312 S. Madison St., in reference to indecent exposure. A 46-year-old male was arrested for sexual misconduct.

09:30 – I was dispatched to the station for a report of lost property. The victim reported he lost his wallet at the high school storm shelter on Saturday, June 13 during the tornado warning.

12:16 – Officers were dispatched to 1709 Redwood Dr. for an attempted abduction. A 25-year-old female was taken into custody for outstanding Webb City warrants and DWI-alcohol/drug combo.

Wednesday, June 17

10:07 – I was contacted at 13th and Madison streets in reference to a missing 46-year-old male. The reporter said his adult son left their home at 4485 Dirt Road, sometime overnight and he was worried about him.

14:30 – I took a report of a lost or stolen trailer license plate from 106 S. Ball St.

Friday, June 18

00:25 – An officer conducted a traffic stop at Range Line Road and Ten Pin for a speeding violation. As a result, a 21-year-old female was arrested for DWI, resisting arrest, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

05:50 – An officer was dispatched to Daugherty and East streets for a leaving-the-scene accident.

08:24 – Officers were notified of a non-injury motor vehicle collision at MacArthur Drive and Oakland Street.

17:55 – Officers were dispatched to Cardinal Scales, 203 E. Daugherty St., in reference to past-tense threats.

23:07 – An officer conducted a traffic stop at MacArthur Drive and Madison Street for a vehicle driving with no lights. A 61-year-old female was arrested for Jasper County warrants.

Friday, June 19

00:33 – Officers were dispatched to 1165 Country Side for a trespass in progress. A 38-year-old male was arrested on warrants.

14:20 – I arrived at 1203 Nelson St. for a report of theft. The victim reported he was assaulted by three males who then stole three firearms from his home.

15:18 – An officer conducted a traffic stop at Main Street and Broadway for a license-plate violation. A 17-year-old female was arrested for DWI-drugs.

18:05 – Officers responded to 201 S. Pennsylvania St. regarding an adult order of protection violation. A 35-year-old male was taken into custody on scene.

09:00 – I received a call for service at 610 S. Madison St. in reference to a found item.

Saturday, June 20

09:48 – Officers were dispatched to the roundabout for a reported non-injury crash.

10:36 – Officers were dispatched to 216 N. Roane St. for a reported theft. A 19-year-old male was taken into custody for stealing $750 or more, , and charges were sent to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.

13:15 – Officers were dispatched to Sleek Inn, 201 N. East St., for a reported abduction.
