Historical Society to embark on more public activities

There’s been some behind-the-scenes planning by Webb City Historical Society members to embark on holding more public activities in 2026.

Those activities will be revealed to the general membership and public during the annual meeting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Webb City Public Library.

There will also be the annual election of officers.

Spring River springs back from mining polution

The wildlife in Spring River had long been dying as a result of mining in this region.

But a Pittsburg State University research team is finding signs that environmental cleanups are helping fish and mussels recover from a century of pollution. Celia Llopis-Jepsen of the Kansas News Service dove into Spring River to explain.

The W Club is reserved on Monday nights through January

The W Club recreation center announces there will be no open gym on Monday nights through January.

Kong Lee, recreation center director, attributes the change to the center being reserved after 5 p.m. on Mondays for group and league play.
