Unified basketball players display their ribbons while being recognized Tuesday by the Webb City R-7 School Board.
The Webb City High School Unified Basketball Team was recognized Tuesday by the School Board for its successful season – including a state championship on March 24. In that final game, instructor Jeff Cole said the players were complimented for their sportsmanship because they didn’t want to humiliate the opposing team. After gaining an insurmountable lead, they’d rebound and hand the ball over to the opposing players.
There are two 3-on-3 Webb City teams, with a partner on each team. Cole said the practices and games improved relationships and even helped the two partners, Trent Walrod and Caden Ray, decide they may want to continue in special education.
Those involved with the Webb City United Basketball Team who were recognized Tuesday are instructors Jeff Cole and Lori Cole, players Michael Hitchcock, Jonathan Aldridge, Ryan Wickencamp James Holifield and partner Trent Walrod. (Partner Caden Ray wasn’t present.)

The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
