Doesn’t seem that long ago that new railing was installed up the front steps of the post office and then the east entrance was made wheel-chair accessible. But all that salt spread on ice to keep customers from falling has taken its toll.
American Construction has welded new railings and devised a new way of attaching them to the concrete instead of embedding them in holes drilled in the concrete and stone.

Rust has obviously been a problem.
The Oronogo United Methodist Church Women Society’s annual chili supper will be held Saturday in the church basement.
Serving will be from noon to 5 p.m. It will cost $7 for adults and $4 for children (12 and under). Pick-up and take-out orders will be available.
The meal will include chili or vegetable soup and dessert.
The Webb City-Carl Junction Rotary is sponsoring a new patriotic cause, Honor a Hero, in time for Memorial Day.
For $50 per year, Rotary will display a flag on Memorial Day, July 4 and Veterans Day in either Webb City’s King Jack Park or in Carl Junction’s Memorial Park.
Flags can be dedicated in the name of an individual, family or business.

Besides their regular fun-fly and swap meet for spring, members of the Sky Kings R/C Club will hold pylon races and open flying on Saturday at their airfield.
Pilots in the pylon race will be competing for trophies, and there will be a raffle for an airplane kit.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to sunset. Lawn chairs and hats are recommended. Lunch will be available. The airfield is north of Sharon Drive on the west edge of Carterville (but actually in Webb City).
Pro Musica will present the Wind Ensemble of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Beshore Performance Hall at the Harry M. Cornell Center for Arts & Entertainment, 212 W. Seventh St, Joplin.
The concert is offered free of charge, with donations welcome at the door. No advance reservations are required, and seating is first come, first served.
The world-renowned ensemble will present a concert of works for winds, brass, and piano, featuring guest pianist Caroline Palmer. Works on offer include cornerstones of the repertoire for wind quartet and piano by Mozart and Beethoven, as well as trios by Carl Reinecke and Francis Poulenc that make use of the unique instrumental combinations within the ensemble.
