The Walking for Cardinals Fun Walk, an annual event to benefit students served by Webb City CARES, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Cardinal Dome.
In addition to walking laps, families will be encouraged to have fun with inflatables, games and face painting.
Webb City Reads will have a book fair, literacy games, read alouds and prizes.
Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee will be $5. Those arriving before supplies run out will receive a free t-shirt, drink and snack.
WC CARES (Community And Resources Embracing Schools) provides snack packs, school supplies and other student needs, with the help of community partners.
Members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City invite everyone to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with them Sunday.
The festivities will include traditional Mexican food, live music and pinatas, along with snow cones, raffles, bounce houses and kids games.
Sacred Heart is at 909 N. Madison St.
Webb City Mayor Lynn Ragsdale invites the public to attend his annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in conjunction with National Day of Prayer on Wednesday, May 4.
The Webb City Ministerial Alliance is sponsoring the event, which will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Webb City, 102 N. Roane St.
Guests include three area mayors: Alan Griffin, Carterville; Doug Lawson, Joplin, and Charles Wilkins, Oronogo.
Also scheduled to attend are Jasper County Clerk Charlie Davis, Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser, U.S. Rep. Eric Burleson and a contingent of the Webb City JROTC Cardinal Battalion.
Carterville residents are welcome to take their trash to dumpsters that will be stationed at Public Works, 310 S. Tennessee St., on Saturday, May 20.
The cleanup will start at 8 a.m. and continue until the dumpsters are full. Proof of residency will be required.
City Administrator Will Cline reminds residents that they can leave one large item a week to be picked up with their normal trash – once they call City Hall by Wednesday with their address.
Also on May 20, the city will be using Region M Solid Waste grants to collect electronic items and tires (limit 10 per resident-no businesses).
