The alt-country duo March to August will kick off the annual Big Spring Park Free Concert Series on Friday, April 24. They will be performing from the park’s historic Grecian stage in Big Spring Park.
“We are so excited to bring another series of concerts to Neosho,” says Sarah Serio, president of Neosho Arts Council. “Our community has enjoyed music from this stage for almost a century now, and we are happy to continue that tradition this spring.”
March to August’s Derrick and Jodi Mears are known for storytelling lyrics and a roots-driven style of music that blends Americana, alt-country, and bluegrass.
The second concert in series will see the return of Molly Healey on May 21. Healey is known as a one-woman band that brings a whole orchestra with her due to her unique ability to blend looping music, live string instruments and intimate vocals together.
The series will wrap up on June 12 with contemporary jazz musician Ralph Hepola and special guest, John Strickler. Hepola has performed on recordings and productions that have been Pulitzer Prize, Grammy, and Tony Award winners and nominees. He was a member of Switzerland’s Basel Symphony Orchestra and The United States Army Band.
The concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and last about an hour. The Grecian Stage is located on the south side of Big Spring Park (309 W. Spring Street) in Neosho. There is no cost to attend. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. The council will also be holding a sidewalk chalk fun draw during each concert. In case of rain the performance will move indoors.
“We hope everyone will join us for a relaxing evening of music,” Serio says. For more information, visit neoshoarts.net.
