Oronogo Board votes to meet just once a month starting in February

It was decided Monday that the Oronogo Board of Aldermen will only meet once a month beginning in February.

Mayor Charles Wilkins suggested the change because he said there are no longer any major projects coming up and “things are running relatively smoothly.”

The board voted unanimously to have Derek Snyder, city attorney, draw up a council bill for an ordinance to amend the city code.

That bill is expected to be approved on Monday, Jan. 27, which will be the last time the board regularly meets on the fourth Monday of the month.

The board will continue to meet at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month.

In other action, Tony Cantrell, public works superintendent, predicted more broken water pipes this weekend if the weather forecast for arctic temperatures is correct.

After the last snowfall, he reported that his department cleared snow from every city street in one day.

Police Chief Steven Weaver noted there were vehicle “slide-offs” but no injuries.
